It’s Monday and I reflect on another epic weekend with friends and family.  I was at a friends brilliant BBQ yesterday – which ran pretty late;  so I was a tired Pete first thing this morning but we had great craic on air discussing my extortionate (out of the blue) phone bill and random things that people bring on holiday.  A full size iron and a stair gate were amongst the random things our callers came up with.

Over the past two football seasons I have presented the ‘Bet McLean Football Show’ which can be found on Cool FMs Facebook each week.  I’m delighted that it’s back for its third season and this time around we are touring the Irish league grounds, chatting to players and managers.  First up a trip to league newcomers Larne and we caught up with their star summer signing; former Arsenal player Mark Randall and former NI, Man Utd and Linfield goalkeeper Roy Carroll.   It was great fun.  Check it out here:

This week I have been trying to get to the driving range as I aim to sort my swing out. A bit of progress has been made (not that my round on Saturday would demonstrate that to be honest).  I made an appearance at the World Invitational Golf tournament at Galgorm castle this week to help with the launch event.

I DJ’d before the band Wild Youth and chatted on stage to Niall Horan whose company ‘Modest Golf’ were behind the event. It was the first competition of its kind in Europe were both Men and Woman compete for equal prize money.  Niall was in great form and extremely excited for the event, the impact it will have on the world of golf and how he is encouraging more people to try the game. We talked music too as he has been putting the finishing touches to his second solo album.

I hosted the launch of the UEFA U19 Championship this week.  It was a great event at the National Stadium in Belfast. Northern Ireland will host the tournament next summer and the best players in Europe from the best football nations have all played in this tournament in their younger years.  I enjoyed hosting a Q&A with UEFA ambassador and former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson, former NI international Aaron Hughes and NI Manager Michael O’Neill.  I love being involved in events of this nature – next summer promises to deliver some great football.

At the weekend I spent some  family time in Portrush.  Again, I here you say.  The girls and I had brunch at the amazing ‘Babushka’ which is beside the West Strand. If you end up there, try the homemade smoky beans.  They are simply incredible.

Thanks for stopping by and reading, have a great week,

Pete
