This is my view as I am sitting on a train from Manchester to London. It’s the morning after the night before.
I was at the Manchester Arena to watch Carl Frampton take on Josh Warrington in an attempt to become a World Champion again. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. I sit here thinking about his journey, how he has achieved everything in the sport by becoming two weight world champion and the nights out he has given his fans including that night at Windsor Park, Titanic, New York and Las Vegas.
I am so happy to say that I’ve been on the journey and got to see some great sporting moments. Last night was another one of those albeit in defeat we seen the man, a man who gave it everything, someone who did it for his family, his fans and arguably his country. Someone who brought people together in Northern Ireland. A great role model and last night in defeat showed nothing but respect. What is next? Retirement? Another boxing match? One thing is for sure, he doesn’t have to prove himself.
Reflecting on those moments makes me realise how quickly time flies by. We are coming to the end of another year.
In 2018 I couldn’t have asked for more. I am extremely thankful. Thankful for my family, friends, the experiences I’ve had and my work. It’s been an incredible year, I’ve travelled, lived out my dreams on air and made precious memories with my wife and kids. The only thing missing is my Dad and it’s heartbreaking watching my Mum as she misses him everyday as I do.
Reflection is amazing. A time to remember the good times, the challenges and how you’ve come through them, to realise what you have learned. I’ve learned that life shouldn’t be taken for granted. Everyday is a blessing. My Dad always said to grab every opportunity, go on those trips with your friends, live for today and not to worry. As every day passes I appreciate his views even more.
Christmas is a great time for reflection, to spend time with the ones you love and plan making even more memories. It can be a wonderful time but not for everyone. It can be tough, lonely and stressful with the weight of expectation you place upon yourself. I really hope that’s not the case for you and you have a brilliant Christmas surrounded by those who mean the most.
Thank you for your support this year, if you listen to the radio show, for reading this or if we have worked together I really appreciate it. I’m signing of for 2018. I hope next year brings you everything you hope for.
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas,
Pete
